Do you close your eyes when you sneeze?

Have you ever wondered, why is it so difficult to keep your eyes open when you sneeze?

I for one, cannot for the life of me not close my eyes when I sneeze. Although it doesn’t make a difference, it bothers me that I am not in control of my body…

The reason why the eyes close when one sneeze are not a defense mechanism to keep away any projectile germs from the eyes. When one sneezes, the force itself sends the bacteria away from the face. Science!

To this day, no particular purposes were found to explain this… It’s just a reflex. One can compare they eyes closing to the same reason a leg kicks out when your knee is tapped…. Magic!
In fact, it’s not only the eye lids which react to a sneeze, but some people even experience urine leakages involuntarily.

Some fun facts

  • Back in the days they thought that the soul was made of air and was trapped inside the head. When one sneezes, they feared that the soul would escape.
  • In the middle ages, when one sneezes everyone used to be so frightened. This was a time when any ilness, minor or major used to lead to death. It was during this time that people started saying ‘God bless you’ as an attempt to protect the sneezer from death or illness

P.S. No, your eyes will not pop out if you leave them open while you sneeze!. ;p

Revenge Finale Questions and Answers

Upon re-watching the final episode of Revenge again, I have come up with several questions, some of which were answered by the media.

1. Why was the final episode of Revenge just 1 hour long? Usually these are longer, to be able to tie up lose ends…

The directors of Revenge did not know that the series was going off air. They only found out a week and a half ago. As such this finale was meant to be a cliffhanger for a purpose… because the plan was to have another season… Thankfully, the writers decided to give a happy ending to Amanda and Jack and focus on other character’s revenge going forward.

2. Upon reading that, I wanted to know, what would have happened in Season 5…

They explain the future of some of the characters…. such as Charlotte, being in control of her life and going to NYU to further her studies… Louise plans are to build an estate where Grayson Manor was, and settles down at the Hamptons… and of course Nolan helping in other people’s revenge. Mason Treadwell would have been back with an evil plan…

3. What’s with Amanda’s reoccurring dream?

At first, I struggled to understand this… But now I do. This dream could actually be a reality… It has been left as a open question. Amanda did live on, after Victoria has shot her straight to the heart. Amanda needed a heart transplant after this, and we see Charlotte saying that Amanda should never know who gave her, her new heart. This implies that the heart is Victoria’s…. Bitter-sweet, and if this is truth and not a nightmare, I find comfort that a part of Victoria lived on… Despite all she has done, she had a very troubled upbringing… and all she did was because of the unconditional love she has had towards here children. I would also question the loyalty of Charlotte, she could have done it out love, or just to piss Amanda off. Amanda is rich, she could have gotten herself any heart she wanted…

4. Nolan’s spinoff?

Today, I have managed to come across an interview were they (Showrunner Sunil Nayar) claimed that both the fans and Nolan Ross (Gabriel Mann) are warming up to the idea…. So, now I am hoping more than ever that this will be in the pipeline. I love Nolan, it would be good to have him and some of the cast move on with their own stories… and who knows, maybe Amanda and Jack would have some guest appearances too.

Goodbye Revenge…

Goodbye Revenge… You have served me well…

I have been dreading this day for a long time now, but unfortunately good things (and bad too!) come to an end…

I think, that the final episode was very well balanced. There was a lot of suspense, with Amanda fleeing captivity, and looking for Victoria. Amanda’s father shooting Victoria, and the latter shoots Amanda almost as she was taking her last breath. Killing them both, would have been very dramatic, but I think a lot of viewers would have been very, very angry.

Amanda points her gun at Victoria, who says, “I died long before you were born. This is just a formality.”

David Clarke dies, while watching snow on his front porch… Although it’s sad, his daughter lived to honour his legacy… with infinite love.

Amanda did get her happy ending… She married Jack Porter, adopted a puppy just like the one Jack had during their childhood… and sailed away to an unknown destination…

And they lived happily ever after..
And they lived happily ever after..

Nolan Ross… feels so useless when the whole revenge was over…. but Amanda never stops surprising us… The series very last scene is an unknown character walking to Nolan showing him a newspaper… his mother is about to go on trial and she’s innocent…. There dear Nolan, purpose found!

Nolan Ross spinoff? Yes please…

The Following (Series) is cancelled

Last night I read on Entertainment Weekly that my most favourite series, The Following is cancelled.

I couldn’t believe my eyes, so I decided to sleep on it… Maybe it was a really bad joke or a dream. The problem is, that it is not a joke as now there are several sources reporting this.

What really bothers me is how on the verified Facebook page, no one has declared this and we have no explanation. They keep promoting the next episode as if there’s no cancellation. What is this madness?

thefollowing

I know that what Fox cares about is their income, and the amount of viewers they get out of every episode. But don’t we deserve to know what has happened? And why kill Joe? Wasn’t it a little bit obvious that this character was close to our hearts and he brought a lot of viewers to the series? You don’t have to work in marketing to know this… No other character on the series has a twisted mind (and an accent) like he does. Nothing compares to him!

So here I am, admitting defeat. Yet another series which will stop abruptly, even when it had so much promise, and darkness to last for a couple more years! The question now is… shall I just boycott Fox? Shall I hope the series get picked up by another TV channel? Or shall I just hope that Ryan Hardy and Joe Carroll get another series?

Throwing Shade; A sensual music video

Have you seen the sexy video coming from Honeytrap featuring Emily Bee?

I was very sceptic to watch this, as I thought it will as always be objectifying women, or men in order to get tons of views and become popular.

To my surprise, the video is very sensual; focusing on the colour red.. which is the colour of love, passion, sensitivity, lust and anger. It is a colour that stimulates people, increases blood pressure and has high visibility. Red is courageous and also it evokes erotic feelings; red lips, red nails, red light district…. The Lady in Red. This video takes advantage of the colour, and it energises us to watch, and listen… and to stay alert!

The play with the colours, the fruits and the honey, is what drew me in… how simplicity can still be so sensual. We almost forget this, in a life so fast, when people are so upfront on what they want. Nakedness is not always a turn-on. I for one, love the teasing and playfulness more. The sexual connotations in this music video is also enhanced by the lyrics of the song.

See for yourself…

Oh…. Victoria! [Revenge]

And the master plan I have spoke in one of my previous blog posts [here] keeps unfolding.

I knew it, how could Victoria just die?

I am trembling as I write this.

She is alive.

She was almost found.

There’s only one episode left. It’s the season finale, and the end of the series itself.

Who’s going to win?

Who’s the wisest of them both?

“Are you ready now?” “More than you know.”

The Struggle to Sleep

Last night I went to Sliema and I had two things planned, all done within 6 hours. I won’t bore you with this, however I made it home at around midnight, which to me is quite a late night for a Sunday. More so, since I wake up around 6am during the week.

I was beyond exhausted, stomach full and happy. I was not worried, and I had no particular thought on my mind; except a smile. It felt good to have a great Sunday. When I switched off the light, turned on the fan and went into bed, I tried to sleep… Despite being tired and eyes were red and hurting, for some reason I couldn’t get to sleep.

I was turning around in the bed, accidently falling asleep… Then I am back up… and the saga repeats itself. 5 or so hours later, I was still pretty much wide awake.  I might have slept a maximum of 2 hours last night.

My question here is, why does this happen? I had no reason not to be able to fall asleep!

Any tips or tricks? I had tea right before I went to sleep, I was not stressed but actually happy, exhausted beyond belief and ready for a new week!

The Loft (Movie Review & Quotes)

Yesterday I decided to have a relaxing evening after going out two nights in a row and spending the day in Valletta. I have made bruschetta for the first time which turned out delicious… (I will be making it again!)

One glass of wine later, I decided to watch a movie which I’ve been wanting to watch for a while. It goes by the name of ‘The Loft’ and it’s considered to be in the thriller genre. Although I was not disappointed by this movie itself, I must say that I was not amused either. The story was quite original, in the sense that five married guys bought a penthouse to take all their mistresses and fuck buddies there, rather than getting caught or seen in hotel rooms. The only agreement they had between each other is that they’d tell the rest when they are occupying the apartment. 5 keys; one per each guy, and one dead body later…. The twist in the plot was quite interesting, but after seeing so many movies of this genre, it was quite obvious that the most perverted one out of the suspects has done it. And so was the case.

What left an impact on me was a quote from this very movie:

“The people you love, are the only ones who can hurt you.”

How true is that?

How easier would life be if we never get hurt?

But, how worthwhile would it be, in the expense of never feeling love and all its emotions ever again?

Fire & Ice

fire and iceIn the moment
Whilst darkness caresses
the light

…and the light embraces
the darkness

I struggle to stay alight
leave thoughts behind.

Emotions in dire
my heart afire:

wondering
conflicting
constricting
refraining
from believing –
your eyes so cold
daunted, unbold.
