Have you heard of ShowsHappening?

After writing my article regarding the considerably huge failure of Eden’s approach of releasing tickets for their Jimmy Carr event through their cinema website (granted, the original plan was to actually host the event in cinema 16), it seems like their new plan was given to a fairly new company in Malta.

To recap, there was no date and time announced of when the tickets will be available; it would have been easier to go back in time to see a live dinosaur than to log into the website, reset your password or create a new account…. let alone managing to buy a ticket or two!

Although ShowsHappening have been operating for the last 3 years, it is recently that they have started offering seating tickets.
I must admit, that this is the first time I heard of this organisation, which means that I had to create an account and thoroughly go through the features of the website.

Upon doing so, I can understand why Eden has chosen to make things right and opt for this option to sell their Jimmy Carr tickets.

ShowsHappening runs smoothly and flawlessly. The design of the website is modern and works well from a laptop as well as from smartphones. Clicking on ‘View Event’ takes you to the event information page in a split of a second; in one single page you can read about the event itself, know the ticket price bands, location of the event as well as have the option to go on and purchase your ticket(s). If the show is seated, you are able to see the seating plan and have the ability to choose your desired seating spot. The organiser can even send photos to ShowsHappening with the view from each seat, to help their future client select the best seat one can afford! Of course, this must sound mundane, but it something that in my opinion would boost up sales in the long run.

Oh… Jimmy Carr

Around 2 weeks ago it was announced that my favourite living stand-up comedian will be in Malta in April. In case you are wondering, yes it is Jimmy Carr. You can imagine my sheer excitement about this news… So much so, due to the fact that I would have never thought he’d step foot on this forsaken island.

Now I wish he didn’t.

Why? You ask.

BECAUSE.
Because, while the REST OF THE WORLD gets to enjoy a Jimmy Carr show with the below pricing, in Malta the prices start at 50 Euro per seat, which would give you the worse sitting places, and on top of that, the VIP seats (which are front cinema seats so to speak) are sold at 120 Euro each.

Trying to get tickets is a nightmare for various reasons. The company selling the tickets just put up the tickets on sale today, with no advise on time and date these will be made available beforehand (unlike in the UK, where announcements are placed with date and time and instructions on from where you can obtain such tickets). To add insult to injury, I found out the tickets were on sale around 30 minutes after it all started, which resulted in:

If I were to purchase tickets, the good seats (which I could afford, which were nowhere close to the 120 euro band) were taken
The website was not accepting my password, throwing random error messages in my face
The website would not let me reset my password claiming I had multiple accounts tagged to the same email address (which is not my fault really, if the website database sucks so much)
Registering with another email address took me multiple attempts due to it being to busy, probably the website was set-up on the cheapest server plan available
Up until an hour ago (4pm), I was still not even able see the seating plan, let alone buy tickets (this was 4 hours after the tickets went on sale).

In conclusion, much to my disappointment, I decided to boycott this initiative as I am not willing to put my hard-earned money onto a seat which would cost me at least twice as much in any other venue overseas.

Next step is to plan my next UK visit wisely and make sure I will de-tour to one of Jimmy Carr’s shows before I visit my boyfriend in Wales. Unless he’d like to join me of course.

Side-note:
Due to my avid fascination and love for this comedian, I did end up going to his shows in 2011 (Stoke-on-Trent), 2012 (Stoke-on-Trent) and 2014 (Stockport) all in the UK. The last time I visited, Jimmy personally asked for a photo with me which I was planning to take to the show to get it signed in April. Guess my mission will be completed later on in the year, although postponed at this very moment.

Qormi Air-Raid War Shelters

Casal Fornaro is an event that happens in my home town Qormi, on a yearly basis. This is a festival which celebrates bread, and how it represented the town through the years, even during wars. During the time when the island was under attack, bread was made out of rice and tasted horrible, but at least it ensured that the citizens had something to eat. Nowadays the city of Qormi is still renowned for bread and together, we celebrate an event full of bread, pastries and culture.

On this day, the two local war shelters are open for the public, and to me, these deserve a visit every year.

In one of the shelters there is a re-enactment from World War 2, explaining the situation of the poor and the politicians. Then you are allowed to roam around the shelter and imagine for yourself what life was like during that time. The re-enactment happens in Maltese which is a disadvantage for any tourists visiting, however one can still visually appreciate the surroundings.

In the second war shelter, there is a bread exhibition sponsored by the leading bakery ‘MayPole’ – One can find fancy bread available in the shelter just for viewing as can be seen in the images below.

One is able to buy similar bread through the many stalls in the festival as well as from their bakery any other day of the year.

Rock the South MALTA – 9th-12th April

rds Finally, the day is upon us! Tomorrow is the first day of a four day festival which happens in the South of Malta. The location is Marsascala and this happens in the limits of Zion, right opposite Thomas Bay.

Although this will be the first time I will be attending, I have heard good things about it and it is why I am looking so much forward to it. There will be two stages, merchandise area, indoor and outdoor bar, food stalls as what is known as a silent disco area. During the weekend before the weekend starts,, there’s the chillout area open for those attending!

This looks like it’s going to be the ‘place to be’ in the next days.

Have a look at the line-up and further below you can have a listen to a couple of bands which will be rocking the stages in the coming days. Do say hi if you make it to this fest 😉

Siggiewi World War Shelters

So, I have been slightly quiet the last few days, but I guess I needed some me time, as I have been very busy with work. I have made two new friends over the weekend, which was great too.

On Sunday, the Siggiewi World War Shelters opened for the very first time. There were a lot of people so it was difficult to get a lot of pictures. But this will give you a brief idea. For those who have been to Siggiewi, these shelters are right under the main piazza, so they are pretty massive. I used to think that the ones in Qormi are quite big, but it’s nothing compared to these shelters; corridors upon corridors, with small rooms which the families themselves dug to have their own private space.

Great work done by the Siggiewi Local Council who opened this for the public.
