A day in Utrecht

I would say that out of the many towns I have visited in the Netherlands, my very favourite is Utrecht. Imagine, somewhere as pretty as Amsterdam, with half the tourists around. I am not a big fan of crowds and this was perfect for me. The streets by the canal are still full of coffee shops, tourist shops as well as restaurants. Yet it is less busy, and loud. Perfect.

Here’s some photos I took, just to give you an idea.

The photos does not do it any justice.

I would suggest that you do not miss the opportunity to visit this town while in Holland. Besides, it is just 1.5 hours away from Amsterdam by train.

Where have the eligible bachelors gone?

I am quite a sociable person, and I get introduced to a considerable amount of people of the male gender; some face to face, others over the internet. I must say that the amount of interesting guys is decreasing time and again. I guess this issue is not just with the guys, but also with the gals.

As a person, even though I need to find the guy attractive physically, I think that what is the most important for me is intelligence. Yes I am a Sapiosexual. I love a guy who can talk on various subjects, who can hold a conversation; someone who I can learn a thing or two from. This on top of a guy being fun and funny, and who can make me laugh about the silliest of things, yet he can be mature when the situation requires it. I hate it when I have to mother a guy… I’m looking for a partner in crime. A guy who can live in the moment but can think about the future.
(Then comes the obvious ‘honest, loyal, truthful..’ characteristics, but that’s a given)

know what I want.
Thing is, how many guys out there know what they want?
And out of those, how many would meet my basic requirements?
I wonder… Am I asking for too much?

It’s not like I am asking for a top model millionaire who owns Bran Castle, a beach house and a cabin by the lake in the middle of nowhere.

Sliema Stroll

Yesterday I spent most of my day in Sliema. Due to the excessive amount of cars and traffic in the area, I did not manage to park in Sliema, but rather I parked in Gzira. Although I was not so happy at the time, as I worried I’d be late, it turned out to be quite a pleasant walk. The promenade was not full of people yet; I guess they were either lazy, or because it’s still May… (not summer yet!)

The sky was as blue as the sea. Thankfully, even though sunny, there was a pleasant breeze which I really appreciated throughout the walk.

Most of the people who know me, know that I am not someone who goes to Sliema so frequently; or voluntarily for that matter. The reason I was there, is because I had to meet with some friends for a bridesmaid shopping spree. Good news is it was successful, and we later celebrated with a few cocktails at Quisisana! Yay for the happy hour until 4pm! 🙂

Boy Meets World / Girl Meets World: Have you watched them?

For those of you who have grew up watching Boy Meets World, or who like me watched it recently, I would love to suggest that you consider watching Girl Meets World. And I will tell you why.

Cory and Topanga are the parents of this girl that the series is about. It’s freaking fantastic to have them both on TV again. I loved them then, and I still adore them now. To me, they are one of my favourite couples, and it’s saying a lot, since I watch way too many series ;p

Boy-Meets-World-then-and-now

What is so great about Girl Meets World is that all the main characters from Boy Meets World guest appear in the new show… which makes it really exciting, nostalgic and emotional. It’s so awesome to see them again. The fact that they still manage to kick ass in their old character, is what makes this show so worth my time. Shawn Hunter especially, what a great lad he has grown up into!

For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, have a look at Boy Meets World trailer (1990s), and afterwards Girl Meets World trailer (2014) below. You can see the same familiar faces in both shows; only more grown up of course!

Do you close your eyes when you sneeze?

Have you ever wondered, why is it so difficult to keep your eyes open when you sneeze?

I for one, cannot for the life of me not close my eyes when I sneeze. Although it doesn’t make a difference, it bothers me that I am not in control of my body…

The reason why the eyes close when one sneeze are not a defense mechanism to keep away any projectile germs from the eyes. When one sneezes, the force itself sends the bacteria away from the face. Science!

To this day, no particular purposes were found to explain this… It’s just a reflex. One can compare they eyes closing to the same reason a leg kicks out when your knee is tapped…. Magic!
In fact, it’s not only the eye lids which react to a sneeze, but some people even experience urine leakages involuntarily.

sneeze

Some fun facts

  • Back in the days they thought that the soul was made of air and was trapped inside the head. When one sneezes, they feared that the soul would escape.
  • In the middle ages, when one sneezes everyone used to be so frightened. This was a time when any ilness, minor or major used to lead to death. It was during this time that people started saying ‘God bless you’ as an attempt to protect the sneezer from death or illness

P.S. No, your eyes will not pop out if you leave them open while you sneeze!. ;p

Getting recognition

I can tell when a blog post has been popular, from the number of views and visitors in the stats page, but one other way to get to know how it’s doing is with the number of shares the blog post had on other social media sites such as Facebook.

The most satisfying thing about it however is when you come across people and pages (in my case bands) sharing your link. Even more fun is when you see others commenting on links to your blog made by strangers.

The review I did on Rock the South, had this kind of feedback:

The sun has set on… Rock the South Malta

So far it has 30 shares on Facebook, which I’d say is good traffic for me and the kind of blog I own:

And I have come across one of the shares last night which made me smile 🙂

Of HayFever and Fun

This weekend was not an eventful weekend, mostly cos I had a lot of my plans cancelled due to a losing battle against my nose aka hayfever.
I started off Friday feeling miserably sick  so decided I should stay in. I spent my Friday swallowing pills and gutted that I had to miss an event happening at Razzett l-ahmar. When I woke up Saturday morning I felt almost as good as new. The plan was to go to Valletta with my mum to pick up our passports. Turns out we got delayed and found the passport office closed. I would have never guessed that they’d close at 11am on Saturday! We arrived only a few minutes late and we were devastated. I guess I know what I will be doing next Saturday morning!!
In the evening me and two friends went out to Coconut/Remedy which is the only alternative and metal pub still standing in Paceville. There was a live event of Martyrium and afterwards a goth/ebm event.

The gig itself was awesome. I was very impressed with their new material and some of their cover versions, mainly Dimmu Borgir. The party afterwards was a let down as no one would dance and most people vanished straight after the live music was over.
But our night was not over… We went downstairs and enjoyed 80s music and Rammstein music for the rest of the night. It’s my favourite music style anyway so I was not really gutted about the ebm party.

On Sunday, my hayfever decided to take over again so I spent my day being lazy. I watched the most awaited first episode of the new season for Orphan Black and then straight after I watched ‘Secrets and LIes’ – a series which I recently discovered.

Rock the South Malta: Day 1 Review

Bands start quite early which means that I had to unfortunately miss the first three bands, and this was not out of choice. For us people who work office hours, it is a bit tough to make it to the fest at 6:40PM. One has to go home, have a bath or quick shower, rest a bit from a busy working day and have some quick dinner. I had to add a 30mins drive to that, which make me arrive at St Thomas Bay at around 8:15PM.

This was my first time at this festival, and also the first time at St Thomas Bay and Zion itself. I expected the outside area to be bigger, and perhaps I can blame this on the map I found online. I thought that the distance between the two stages was more than you 20 seconds walk 😉 But I am not complaining! Especially considering that no bands were playing at the same time, so there was no sound interference, and one could watch all bands if they wanted to.

The only suggestion I would make at this point is about the 20150410_105003wristbands. I have bought a 4 day ticket, and I have a green paper-made wrist band. I already know it will be a challenge for it to survive 4 days on my arm! I think that at least for those who are attending the 4 days, we should have been given a plastic/rubber wristband which is more durable and can be removed while we are at work, having a shower or doing chores.

With regards to the bands, I think all have been amazing in their own style, but I would like to give a special shout out to The Cosmic Erotic, which were the biggest surprise to me. I loved the music and all of the songs they performed. Yews was also awesome especially during her first part of her performance. Keep it up girl, and I hope to see you live again sometime soon. Violent Violets never disappoint with their metal guitar riffs.

Photos will be added during the weekend as I’d rather get ready for day 2 now 😉

Rock the South MALTA – 9th-12th April

rdsFinally, the day is upon us! Tomorrow is the first day of a four day festival which happens in the South of Malta. The location is Marsascala and this happens in the limits of Zion, right opposite Thomas Bay.

Although this will be the first time I will be attending, I have heard good things about it and it is why I am looking so much forward to it. There will be two stages, merchandise area, indoor and outdoor bar, food stalls as what is known as a silent disco area. During the weekend before the weekend starts,, there’s the chillout area open for those attending!

This looks like it’s going to be the ‘place to  be’ in the next days.

Have a look at the line-up and further below you can have a listen to a couple of bands which will be rocking the stages in the coming days. Do say hi if you make it to this fest 😉

Solar Eclipse

Have you managed to see the solar eclipse?

Are you stuck at work?

Is it too cloudy where you are?

This is what I managed to capture in the not so sunny Malta:
