Happy Pi Day!

Every 14th of March, we commemorate Pi.

A lot of the geeks I know, today eat pie just for the sake of celebrating this nerdy day of the year. Fret not, I have done this
myself before, which is why I know about this tradition… But I had to skip it this years for various reasons which I won’t get into during the blog post.

For those of you who are not aware of this sacred day, here is some information. Pi is a mathematical constant and since it is an irrational value, it is infinite and has no repetition or pattern whatsoever. It is a very fun holiday for those who celebrate it. I mean, who does not love pi pie? Let me think…. NO ONE! Steak and ale pie, ricotta pie, chicken and mushroom, key lime pie, pumpkin pie, berries pie.. Yum!

Some people also commemorate this day by creating fun videos of themselves or friends reciting a ridiculous amount of digits of pi. Here’s some videos:

Steffi Advice #4 – 50 Shades of Office Inappropriateness

Dear Steffi,50

I work with another 8 women and we all have read the Fifty Shades of Grey and expressed interest in the book and the movie. Few days before the movie was released in the local cinema, we received an email from our manager inviting us for lunch, drinks and then to watch the movie together. I felt it was weird and that the movie is not work-friendly. Because our manager gets defensive we all decided not to bring this out to him and simply go to the event altogether. How can I explain to him that he crossed a line without creating a chaos in the office?

Dear Shady,

Although it is lovely and appreciated to have colleagues which you are friends with, I would think this is awkward especially since the only male figure who attended was your manager. I would not feel comfortable watching this movie with my boss, imagining what he is thinking while watching it, and seeing your reactions to the movie; even if you were taking the piss at the movie, like I did with my group of friends! I guess, if I were in that situation I would have tried to agree with the rest of the colleagues, so together we could decline the offer since it was not an appropriate outing for work. It would have been one step forward towards showing your boundaries and hopefully one step closer for your boss to learn his limits.

Blues and Thorns

In a dimly lit corner,
In a southern bar,
In the loneliest part
of town,
Where the wooden floor
creeks with every step,
I chose the far most
gloomiest table.

The juke box
playing random blues,
an antediluvian tending the bar,
who cannot remember
how to serve a customer.
I stare into space
playing with a thorn menu
my fingers running across holes
in the table.

I,
like this paper
have suffered.
Like the jukebox,
I’m old.
Like the bar,
I’m forgotten.
Like the owner,
I’m alone.

There was a time, when I used to love Nickeback’s music, even if it is not my very favourite genre. The album Dark Horse was the one I listened to the most.

A stroll in the valley

The weather forecast for this weekend is of several rain showers throughout the day, so the moment I saw some sun out and the clouds were apart from each other, I decided to take a risk and go for a walk. After a very stressful and busy week at work, I thought this might do the trick and help me relax for a while.

Beauty and the Beast; The Movie

One of my favourite Disney movies while growing up was Beauty and the Beast. Today I saw the announcement that all the actors that will be playing the main characters have been picked out. I am thrilled, because I think that they all fit perfectly; at least aesthetically!

New Zealand dreaming

I have just come across an article claiming that New Zealand will need around 50,000 workers to move there in the next two years. Seeing this is my dream destination not for just a holiday, but for living, because of the fact that nature is at its best and it’s not so over populated, I started thinking what my life would be like there.

Turns out that they are looking for a lot of technology workers, most of which in IT.

Here is me hoping that they would open up their offers outside of Australia, to us Europeans… Who knows what I decide on doing then….
