Self-Control

Lately I have been discussing this with a number of people, and some people seem to be in awe with regards to my will power. I still have some more to go, but I think I am almost there, on most aself_control_posterspects.

Self-control is a form of restraining yourself. Like everything else, restraining yourself in an exagerated way is wrong. Stopping eating altogether is bad, hiding entirely your feelings and emotions is also bad. One needs to learn to say no, when it’s enough. One bar of chocolate a day, is good enough. Stop letting people treating you like crap, or taking advantage of you.

Controlling your own behaviour would help you in both your personal life as well as at work. When you discipline yourself, you can plan better and finish within your deadline. Self-control helps you focus on your life and goals. On your journey.

These are a few tips I have learned along the way:

1. Look at the big picture – What do you want to achieve? How are you going to get there?
2. Remember the basics – Take it one step at a time, you will get there.
3. Don’t procrastinate – Focus
4. Love yourself – Respect yourself and it doesn’t hurt to reward yourself from time to time too!
5. Be confident – This i where I still struggle.
6. Rest – Don’t over do it. Make sure you get a good night sleep, so you can work harder the next day!

The Majestic Conwy Castle

conwy3

When it comes to castles, I have seen quite a few in England and Wales, but Conwy castle has made a huge impact on me. Be it, the fact that it is gritty and dark, and has a very medieval feel to it… Or perhaps because it is the entrance to the historic town of Conwy and of course, the background behind it of Snowdonia.

Look at this image.. you will get what I mean:

The castle was constructed under the monarchy of Edward I between 1282 and 1289.

The wall of this magnificent castle is made up of eight large circular towers and fours smaller towers. The insides of the castle are almost in ruins, but this adds to the grim factor of this castle. There is however enough remains to let you imagine what living in this castle must have been like.

I have spent hours wandering around in this castle. It is large and fully accessible to the public at a very decent price of £6.75 per person.

Ode to War

Tear Gas.
Fighting.
Explosions.
Tortures.

The symptoms of war,
Our soldiers endure.

Orders –
Followed;
Enemies –
Destroyed;

Like sheep they behave
They kill and never let live.

Wounds –
Physical;
Psychological;
Trauma

The guilt they burden,
The nightmares they pass through.

Reason?
Peace.
Unity.
Patriotism.

The lie we are led to believe.
Affecting us. Our life, perspective.

How fitting it is
To die for ones country?
When if you survive,
You’ll regret it for all your life.

Knowing that you were just
an insignificant number;
And you will be forgotten
there after.

At the beach in Winter

Yesterday late afternoon I was in St. Julian’s area. It was not cold, just a mild breeze, so I decided to have a walk near the beach. I sat down and watched the sunset.

I love beaches in Winter.

The beach is in its entirety empty; All yours.
Peaceful.
Clean.

It was just me and the sun.
Then, just me and the moon.

20150115 St George's Bay

Good times.

//This beach is know as St. George’s Bay, or Paceville Bay by some. This beach in summer is overcrowded, mostly by tourists… specifically students who come to learn English in Malta as well as young groups of friends and couples.

How to cook and eat a Swede

The other day, I came across the funniest article. Maybe not funny for most, but since I work with a lot of Swedish people, I thought it was hilarious. Apparently, there is a seasonal vegetable known by us Europeans as a Swede.

The introduction to this vegetable did crack me up:

swede

So whenever you are mad at a Swedish person, you can tell them… ‘You are such a Swede!’ And most likely, they wouldn’t know you are calling them a turnip!

Blessed Sunrise

Today’s blog won’t say much… I will simply share with you the photo I have taken this morning, of the sunrise as soon as I arrived to work.

When I saw it, I thought it was beautiful  amazing  extravagant   breath-taking… No words…

Borrinu… aka Snowman

This post is a fun one, and is inspired by one of Malta’s top new words… Borrinu. This was invented this year after some people managed to make snowmen made of hail. Anyhow, the translation to this word is a snowman. I guess a snow-woman would be a Borrina.

Today we will have a look at the translation of Snowman in various languages:

  1. Olaf_from_Disney's_FrozenArabic: رجل الثلج
  2. Czech: Sněhulák
  3. Danish: Snemand
  4. Dutch: Sneeuwpop
  5. English: Snowman
  6. Estonian: Lumememm
  7. French: Bonhomme de neige
  8. German: Schneemann
  9. Latin: Pupulus nivalis
  10. Maltese: Borrinu
  11. Norwegian: Snømann — Very Englishy!
  12. Polish: Bałwan śniegowy
  13. Russian: Снеговик
  14. Spanish: Muñeco de nieve
  15. Turkish: Kardanadam

Happy learning! 🙂

Dead or Alive.

Hell is just a feeling
Keeping you from reasoning.
Open up your eyes
Make a step, for your sake.

No more secrets and mysteries
No more fights and lies.
Open up your heart
Everything will heal.

Take away the dead black roses
The thorns and pains.
Open up your mind
Life is full of colours.

Tormented

I gave you my heart
You tore it apart.
You split it in two
because you, love you.

This is an old poem, but I thought I’d publish some of my work from time to time.
