Black Books!

You are probably reading this, because you know my geeky self, and you have an idea what I’m about to talk about.

Second clue would be… Bill Bailey!

I suppose if you are still reading this, you are either aware of what I am talking about (fingers crossed), or otherwise you must be a curious cat. If you are the latter, Black Books is a British sitcom featuring Bill Bailey, Dylan Moran and Tamsin Greig. It is all filmed within a bookshop and it is hilarious.

During my visit to London in July, I made my way to Black Books of course… I was staying in a hotel within 5 minutes walking distance, so I could not miss out the opportunity.

Needless to say, I was delighted I finally made it:

Pixels The Movie – Review

After spending weeks debating whether I should watch Pixels the movie, I decided to give it a go. May I just say that it was the best decision I made today? ;P

Joking aside, this movie is not only hilarious, creative and fun to watch, but it made me reminisce my childhood.. The 80’s games… the gaming arcades… I used to spend hours playing pac-man and hating on the ghosts chasing it. What about Donkey Kong? I think it was the first game I played with the character Mario, and like the tradition goes, he is always up to rescuing pixilated women or princesses, in this case Pauline.

Other video game characters and games which contributed in the movie are Galaga, Frogger, Tetris, Paperboy and Ceintipede among many more. Low and behold, Toru Iwatani; the creator of Pac-Man is also part of the movie. This is how awesome and geeky it is!!

Actors such as Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Peter Dinklage and Josh Gad makes this movie even more watchable. These actors are well known in the comedy genre, and with that pinch of nostalgia and nerdy vibe, it is just the cherry on the cake.

Have a look at the trailer:

Let me know your thoughts if you actually watched this 🙂

Baker Street Lovin’

When I was a teenager, I was fascinated by London.
I was even more overwhelmed when I discovered that in London, there was an alternative town by the name of Camden. Every time I visited England, I had to spend a day there shopping until I run out of money. When I moved to England in 2011, London become the least attractive place for me to visit. Sure there were a lot of shops and activities going on, but it was too busy and hectic for my liking. I would go down to London for a major gig or to meet friends who were visiting; but would not bother with it at all otherwise.

But this year, everything has changed.
I had to go back to London for one specific reason: AC/DC.
Any heavy metal fan would know that AC/DC are touring again, and considering their age, it would most likely be the last time (I hope I am wrong!). But this was the sole reason why I step foot in London again, after 3 odd years.

While I was there, I had to fulfill one huge dream which unbelievably I did not do even though I visited the city countless times.

Just can’t get enough! Silicon Valley (Series)

Over the weekend, I found some time to relax… which in most cases means, I found some time to start a new TV series. This time round I have finally gotten around watching a series which has been in my Must Watch List for the last year or so. The series goes by the name of: Silicon Valley. When I saw the trailer, I knew this would be one of those guilty pleasure series.

You might ask, Why?

Well, the geek inside me, craves for nerdy-techie-silly-geeky series. You guessed it! Silicon Valley hits all these terms, and even more. The guys in this series, and the alternative chick which joins in season 2 make me miss a side of me, which I hide from most people. This weekend, the geek in me squealed with pleasure, as the series unfolded and as the inside jokes reminded me of when I was still at MCAST being a full-on geek-goth girl also known by most as the alternative weirdo.

If you are into jokes such as the below, the series is definitely made for you 🙂

1. I know HTML (I know How to Meet Ladies)
2. An app called Nip Alert
3. Hand job / Dick Jerk jokes
4. Witty jokes on technologies such as Apple’s maps, Microsoft’s Vista
5. Mumbling geeks that cannot interact with normal people

Steffi Advice #1 – Single and Frustrated

Dear Steffi,

I have been single for a number of years and I am starting to wonder why I have been for so long. Most guys that are interested in me are either nerd looking or those who just wanna have sex and get on with life without me. What do you think am I doing wrong?

Frustrated.

—————–

Dear Frustrated,

Although a number of years might seem to be a long time, it spares you the heart ache of dating someone who you do not have enough interest in. Fill up your time with other things, stop waiting for prince charming. Love comes when you least expect it, or so they say. I have been single for almost a year myself, but I have come into terms with it. There’s nothing wrong with being single. Love yourself, enjoy the freedom. There will be time in your life when you are going to regret not taking advantage of this situation. Travel, read, learn a sport or a hobby, have random chats with strangers, focus on yourself.
I’m sure there are good men out there, he will come to you… or you will come to him; at the right moment, at the right time. Maybe you will have to kiss a few frogs before you find the prince, but remember… everyday you are one step closer.
As much as I don’t want you to give up, I want you to make the most out of your current situation.

Hi ho, hi ho! To the Hobbit house we go!

After watching the Hobbit movie twice at the cinema in a span of two weeks, my fascination with hobbit houses has come back to haunt me. It haunts me as it feels like I will never own one… It mesmerises me as it makes me think, and hope. Life can be so unpredictable at times.

During one of researches online about hobbit houses, I came across a story about a couple who were given a plot for free in Wales to build a hobbit inspired house. The couple have moved from this house a few years back and are now building a bigger house in West Wales. The original hobbit house, looks like it is now demolished or in the process to be demolished… Not because it was structurally built badly, but because they never got the permissions to build it. Shame really. I think it would have been a great local attraction!

In one of the interviews they had, they explained how the house only costed them £3,000. They mention that this is due to the fact that the house was mainly built with natural materials and scrapped items.

The house was built in 4 months, mostly consists of wood and is dug into a hillside.the roof was covered with a layer of earth, has grass on which helps blend the house into its surrounding.

The house is using sustainable material and energy throughout; lime plaster instead of cement, a fridge which remains cool due to ventilation coming from beneath the foundation and compost toilet. A wood burner was used to heat up the house.

I would actually love to get the opportunity to build and have such a lovely home. I do love cities, but I do love being in the country side, enjoying nature itself. Tell me the truth… can’t you imagine yourself sitting right here?
